About the Activity
For two days and one night, from March 22–23, 2025, Skill Up in collaboration with Gebrak Indonesia held a Live In Program in Cupunagara Village, Cisalak District, Subang, West Java. This program aimed to improve the quality of children’s education in the village during the holy month of Ramadhan. A range of engaging projects were presented in a fun and interactive manner. Children were invited to participate in a variety of activities and simple skill-based workshops, including making keychains, playing games, and making ice cream. These workshops were designed to support and enhance children’s development in the long run.
The program culminated in a shared iftar with the children and local residents, symbolizing unity during the sacred month. Positive feedback and warm responses were received from various parties, especially the children. This event is hoped to create a lasting, positive impact on the children’s skills and overall well-being.
Initial Interaction
The “Petang Riang Ramadhan” event began by gathering residents of Cupunagara Village—especially the children—at 3:00 PM. By 3:30 PM, the village hall was buzzing with excitement as children filled the room with eager anticipation. They had clearly been looking forward to this ngabuburit (pre-iftar gathering) prepared by the volunteers. In line with Skill Up’s focus on education, the event was carefully designed to be both an interactive learning space and a celebration of the spirit of togetherness that thrives in Cupunagara’s community.
Activity Flow
The event was divided into two main sessions: Sigma Lab and Group Iftar. To begin, the children were split into five groups, each guided by four volunteers. The Sigma Lab opened with an educational session on the topic of States of Matter. Delivered in a fun and engaging format, the content was designed to be easily understood. The learning was followed by a simple science experiment—Ice Cream Making—allowing children to experience a hands-on application of the lesson.
In addition to learning and experiments, the program included a creative session where children made personalized acrylic keychains using paint. Though simple, this activity quickly became the highlight of the event, with children joyfully showing off their colorful creations. “It was really fun! My favorite part was making the keychains together—they’re so cute,” shared Yeisya, one of the participants. Throughout the event, several children mentioned how much they enjoyed the experience as it was something entirely new for them. Many even hoped for similar activities in the future, such as painting or cooking classes.
Shared Joy
The joy was not only felt by the children, but also by the parents who accompanied them. Their happiness was evident as they watched their kids fully engaged in every activity. “It would be great if events like this were held more often—it’s helpful and keeps the kids busy before breaking the fast,” said one parent in conversation with a volunteer.
As the sun began to set, all activities wrapped up. While waiting for the call to prayer, everyone took part in a group photo session and closing remarks. At maghrib, the village community and volunteers came together to enjoy the iftar meal in a warm, harmonious atmosphere.
Lesson Learned
Throughout this program, numerous meaningful and positive activities were carried out, supported by valuable feedback and suggestions. Collaboration between all involved parties played a key role in the success of this event. Words of gratitude and heartfelt smiles were the fruit of the strong bonds that were formed.
“Thank you to everyone who contributed to this event. May the benefits be felt personally, collectively, and environmentally. Keep spreading joy—it always finds its way back to you,” said PO as the Project Officer in this event.
May the warmth of togetherness and the beauty of these moments not only visit during Ramadan, but linger throughout the year. From this experience, we’ve learned that spreading happiness can start with the simplest of actions. Through programs like this, we hope to continue nurturing care for children's education in villages and across the nation—standing as a true commitment to a brighter future.
