A journey of service that has shaped who we are today
Education should be the bridge to that future, but for too many, it remains out of reach.
Unfortunately, it’s factors outside of anyone’s control that limit students’ opportunity to realize their potential: things like where they grew up or who their parents are. These barriers often trap entire communities in cycles of limited opportunities, where even the most basic learning needs go unmet.
At SatuEdu Foundation, we wake up every day determined to change that. We are committed to creating a world where everyone has the chance to learn, graduate, and succeed—regardless of where they are born or what they are born into.
When we first started, the challenge was how to make a meaningful and sustainable impact. We were born in 2020 when the pandemic hit. With offline interaction limitations, we began with webinars designed to bridge the knowledge gap between experts and students, focusing on courses that are not taught at school or universities. As we read and traveled more, we also became curious about inequalities further from home.
One day, we decided to expand our impact to remote areas of Indonesia. We decided to go to Atambua, a village in East Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia—a region that has consistently ranked among the lowest in the nation’s Human Development Index. Here, only 5% of the population has attended college, the lowest rate in the country.
In Atambua, we met Imelda, a local teacher who told us, “Without reliable electricity or basic teaching aids, it’s a daily struggle to create a learning environment that inspires our children.”
That conversation opened our eyes to the real challenges in Indonesian education. Nothing is worse than kids missing out on learning because they lack basic things like desks or books. We realized that education—a human right—is out of reach for many students in remote areas. We knew then that we must focus on students in Indonesia’s rural areas, which are often overlooked, where our mission is to provide not just non-material needs (e.g., knowledge, inspiration, etc), but also material needs (e.g., school supplies) they need to succeed.
Since that community empowerment in Atambua, we have constantly organized community empowerment programmes in some of the most underdeveloped villages in Indonesia. These initiatives empower students and teachers to dream bigger than their circumstances. We provide education facilities, offer scholarships, and improve literacy to instill hope and facilitate their achievement in the most remote regions of Indonesia.
Yet, our work is far from done. Hundreds of millions of students in remote areas are still striving for the opportunities they deserve. As we continue to expand and reach more students and teachers, we invite you to join us by donating, volunteering, or sharing our mission to bring quality education to every child.
Together, we can be Partners of Inclusive Learning.
We began our journey of community empowerment through the #EducationForAll program in Atambua, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), in collaboration with Timor Belajar. This initiative impacted 367 students, supported by IDR 36 million in donations, including IDR 16 million specifically for educational needs.
The following year, we expanded our impact through the Community Development Program. Together with GamaDharma, we brought #EducationForAll to Sumba and Toraja. Through various educational programs, donation distributions, and teacher training sessions, we engaged with over 240 students and 30 teachers across 3 schools.
SatuEdu shifted focus to Community Development, building a collaborative ecosystem for inclusive education. We began in Toraja, revitalizing libraries and training teachers—reaching 500+ students and 40+ teachers from 20 schools.
