Dreaming of flying across the horizon
Through words, discovering the vastness of the world
Pausing to look at the earth below
Indulging in the sweetness of brown sugar
Until the cool breeze is full of color
Creating a sweet journey of freedom
And a warm place to return to
About the Activity
On July 19, 2025, SatuEdu collaborated with Creavill Bandung to organize a mini project titled Excoolen. The event took place in one of Creavill Bandung's supported villages, specifically in Braga Village. The activities conducted during this mini project are one of the ways to ensure children receive foreign language education while not forgetting Indonesian culture, combined with each child's creativity. The presence of Creavill Bandung's supported village creates an emotional connection between the children in Braga Village and the Creavill Bandung team, making the atmosphere cheerful and lively. The various activities conducted not only provide knowledge to the children but also remind them of Indonesian culture, which is beginning to be forgotten by the current generation. The positive energy demonstrated by the children shows that Indonesian cultures that are beginning to be forgotten can be remembered once again.
Initial Interaction
Excoolen began with the children being picked up by mentors and crowd managers and taken to their respective neighborhoods. Around 20 children participated in the event and gathered at Rumah Baca, Braga. Excoolen was attended by children from early childhood education to elementary school, ranging from first to fifth grade. There was no awkwardness between the children and the Creavill Bandung team, with lots of chatting and laughter. After all the children had gathered, the MC from SatuEdu and Creavill Bandung began the discussion as the official start of Excoolen.
Activity Flow
At the beginning of the activity, the children were divided into five groups, each accompanied by a mentor. The activity was divided into three main sessions. In the first session, the children guessed the meaning of words from English to Indonesian and vice versa. Kak Faizal started with several questions, namely English vocabulary related to fruits and colors. The children were very enthusiastic and many of them were able to answer fluently. Then, the activity continued with the MC showing cards with pictures of objects accompanied by the English vocabulary for those objects. In this activity, the children were asked to answer in Indonesian after the pictures on the cards were shown. From this activity, it was clear that the children not only had a good understanding of English, but also had high self-confidence and a competitive spirit.
After the first session ended, the second session began with PIC activity 2, which asked the children if they had ever tried making klepon. Most of the children had already tried making klepon with their parents. Before making klepon, the children were given plates as containers for the ready-made klepon flour and filling, which was brown sugar. They were also given plastic gloves. After all the tools and ingredients were distributed to the children, they began making klepon by putting brown sugar into the klepon dough balls that had been given to them. The children looked happy and very active. Many even asked for extra dough and palm sugar because they were so enthusiastic about the process. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and warmth. After the klepon was made, it was boiled by the organizers and then given to the children who had made it. While waiting for the klepon to cook, the children chatted with the organizers. “Sis, I’ll ask permission to go home first, I want to give it to my grandmother,” said Keysa. This shows the children’s deep affection for their families. Many other children also asked permission from the organizers to give the klepon they made to their families at home.
After the children finished eating klepon, the event continued with activity 3, which was painting on fans provided by the committee. Each group was given three palettes to hold the paint. Then each child was given a set of painting tools consisting of patterned fabric, brushes, and paint. The children painted using their favorite colors, and many of them mixed the colors provided to create their favorite shades. The results of the patterned fabric were varied. The children appeared focused and serious about creating beautiful results on the fabric fans they had. After finishing the painting, the fabric was attached to thin wood to form fans. After waiting for a while, the fans could be used by the children. This activity allowed the children to express themselves through the paintings they created. Each child showed different results but remained proud of the process they had undertaken.
A Sense of Togetherness
The end of the three main events was marked by the distribution of prizes to the groups that had accumulated the most points during the main events. The children were so eager to receive the prizes. The prizes consisted of stationery and books that could be used for school activities. During the activities, the children seemed to really enjoy the process they were going through. Not only that, the energy they gave to the committee was so great and positive that it made the atmosphere very enjoyable. After the prize distribution, the children were prepared for a documentation session so that the moments they experienced could be remembered. After all the events concluded, the children were escorted back to their respective homes to rest.
Lesson Learned
Excoolen left many lessons for all who participated. The good coordination between both parties, SatuEdu and Creavill Bandung, made the event run smoothly. Good communication and coordination, as well as thorough preparation, ensured that the three main events ran smoothly. From this activity, we learned that children need activities to channel their creativity. Children not only gain new knowledge but also value what they do as part of their personal development. May the warmth that has been established continue in future opportunities and inspire us all to consistently contribute to advancing education as the foundation of the nation's future.
